As an alternative to doubling that part of the line, they decided to restore the Strathmore route from Stanley Junction to Kinnaber Junction.

The local authority of the time, Tayside Region saw this as an opportunity to develop a railhead for the Eastern Perthshire and North Angus area. The location chosen was Alyth Junction, later to be renamed Wallacetoun Junction when the station was upgraded to deal with passenger and freight. (William Wallace is reputed to have lived for a time in the Auchterthouse area, just 5 miles away). The regions future aspirations were the restoration of local passenger services along the Blairgowrie – Kirriemuir – Forfar – Brechin corridor resulting in the renewal of the branch to Alyth.

The sidings at Wallacetoun are used by a local oil supplier and a Railtrack regional depot. They are also used for loading timber from surrounding Forestry Commission plantations.

N Gauge DC control Scottish Region Modern image Dimentions (inccluding operators and barriers) 12′
